Athlete’s Foot is a skin infection caused by a fungus. Although fungus typically attacks the feet, you can develop a fungal infection on any part of the body. Fungus thrives in damp environments, for example, swimming pools. Our feet are more vulnerable to this kind of skin infection because they are often trapped in shoes for extended periods of time.
Typically, symptoms of Athlete’s Foot include itchy, dry, scaling skin more commonly found on the soles of the feet and between toes. In severe cases, you may notice inflammation, cracks and blisters; a bacterial infection may occur; and the fungal infection may spread to other parts of the body, including toenails.
